Fuji Oil Hosts a Seminar Regarding Meals for Seniors - Orientation on Fuji Oil Products 2013

2013.11.22

On November 15, 2013, Fuji Oil Co., Ltd. hosted “A Seminar Regarding Meals for Seniors - Orientation on Fuji Oil Products 2013” at the Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa. The seminar focused on the company’s thought and approach towards the senior market, and introduced recipes using Fuji Oil’s ingredients through tasting sessions.
Approximately 100 businesses, majority of whom were food-related companies interested in the senior market, attended the event.

♦ Our Belief
We gave thoughts to what we can do to extend the health span of senior citizens as a food materials manufacturer in this super-aging society.

- Concept
As they tend to lack sufficient nutrition, Fuji Oil will propose ways that seniors can actively consume high protein/high fat (energy-rich) foods.
- Catch-phrase
Enjoy What You Eat and Become an Active Senior

The seminar opened with a speech by Fuji Oil’s President and CEO Hiroshi Shimizu, followed by a lecture by Professor Osamu Kumagaya from the University of Human Arts and Sciences titled “Stop eating lean meals if you don’t want to receive nursing care – the new malnutrition that’s affecting seniors”. The professor called the state of low-nutrition experienced by the elderly as “the new malnutrition” and urged that the belief that lean meals are good for the elderly is perpetuating this alarming state. He emphasized the importance of eating a balanced meal that includes plenty of protein and fat/oil to delay aging.
♦ Fuji Oil’s Efforts
The company proposed five keywords to promote nutrition intake among seniors - “safety/comfort”, “health”, “tastiness”, “fun”, and “convenience” – and introduced its activities relating to each of the keywords. We also presented a range of products and recipes that embodied the five keywords and invited attendants to taste the dishes.
In addition, it also outlined three technologies associated with the presented products: “USS manufacturing method (a new separation technique for soy milk)”; “DTR manufacturing method (a technique to disperse water-soluble substances in oil)”; and “fermentation and manufacturing method of tasty caseous materials”.
♦ Ways to implement the proposal
Each booth introduced products and recipes aimed at making sure that seniors effectively consume the necessary nutrients. We also proposed ways to make meals “delicious”, “fun” and “convenient”, and provided recipes for nutritious snacks (designed to eat between meals), since the elderly tend to eat smaller meals at a time which leads to malnutrition.
